Inauguration of the XV Binational Health Week and Binational Public Policy Forum on Migration and Health in the San Francisco Bay Area

With the welcoming words of Professor Xochitl Castaneda from the Health Initiative of the Americas, School of Public Health at the University of California-Berkeley, was launched in the city of Oakland the opening ceremony of the XV Binational Week Health in the Bay Area and the Binational Policy Forum on Migration and public Health. In this manner, the state of California, after eight years, again becomes the inaugural venue for this continental effort for health.

Also in the event participated Dr. Diana Dooley, Secretary for Management of Health and Human Services of California, Dr. Carlos Perez, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, The Consul General of Guatemala Archila, Mr. Kim Wilcox, Rector of the University of California-Riverside, Ms. Melissa Stafford, Regional Director for the Department of Health and Human Services of the US Region IX and Dr. Mercedes Juan, Mexico Secretary Health who finally inaugurated the XV Binational Health Week.

Although in its beginnings the Binational Health Week was conceived as an event promoted by Mexico to contribute to the health of Latino immigrants living in the US and Canada, nowadays other countries have joined this initiative, namely, Guatemala, Honduras, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Nicaragua, Uruguay and Venezuela. In this sense today other Consuls Generals in San Francisco joined the opening ceremony from Colombia, Chile, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.
